Outdoor Fabric Color and Pattern Report

Hot colors for this summer are described as follows:

• Fresco: Lily, rosemary, thistle, almond, pomegranate, pollen
• Burnt: Ebony, ruby, mahogany, amethyst, fox, caramel
• Organic: Oxide, steel, petroleum, cedar, ink, indigo
• Neutral: Carbon, charcoal, cardboard, filing, greige, ermine

One of the hottest color trends that we have noticed is the turquoise and brown theme. Not only do you see this in clothing, but it has made its way on to patio cushions and fabrics. Last year many customers purchased bright colors while most stayed with the ever-popular earth tones. Earth tones are forecasted to stay in fashion for many more years to come.

Subtle patterns seem to be a customer's favorite and will continue to carry this trend throughout the Summer season. Bold and strong patterns are still hot, but you usually can find these around pools, spa areas and lounge cushions. Popular pattern types are tropical and florals as this can always promise to deliver an "outdoor feel" to customer's outdoor rooms.

Stripes are still popular as ever, but the trend is forecasted to change slightly. Instead of the normal two tone one inch stripe patterns, thinner and more colorful striped outdoor fabric is making its way to patio sets.

Just as customers have done in the past season, we expect more customers to lean towards the more "comfy" approach. Thicker cushions with lots of "fluff" will be the fashion for Summer as comfort becomes a more important issue when relaxing outside. Thick, boxed-edge, deep-seating cushions are also expected to be one of the hottest trends this season.

Customers are buying early this year and our sales reports show that wood furniture is going to be popular. Because of its natural look, wooden patio furniture allows for easy coordination with patio settings, backyard scenery and outdoor fabrics. This type of patio furniture is light weight and we are seeing more and more designs that allow for folding and easy storage during the off seasons.
